Production Blog: Getting Things Done Behind The Camera

So, on the first filming day I was able to get most of the scenes for my music video done. The first day of filming was much easier than the last time is started the filming process. I was able to get most of the scenes completed with some hick ups in between but overall, it was a fun experience.  Seeing as it was only my second time really filming something like this. I spent the rest of the time that I had left over for that day thinking about how I was going to improve the quality for the second half of the filming process.

Having adapted to recording on my phone this time around the quality of the scenes was pretty good in my opinion.  At first, though the videos were kind of dark because it was about to rain, and I was trying to get some of the scenes done before that happened. So, I hit the record but and let the acting commence and see how the clips would come out. Once I figured out exactly how to adjust the lighting so that the scene portrayed the image that I wanted but still had an eerie felling the ball was rolling.   It took a few takes because the lighting wasn’t panning out well in the first few cuts with the lighting adjustment.

After I finished recording the first few scenes of the music video, I took a little break to review and reflect on the that we’re taken so far. Some of the takes weren’t the best so I am going to refilm them on the second day of my filming process. As soon as I started recording again for the easier scenes of the music video that didn’t require a lot of work, I got a lot done. Everything was perfect in the clip there was good lighting, and the camera movement was perfect. Since all that needed to be done was recording the actor from a short distance as they used a laptop that was placed in front of them or required them to pick up a phone.

Overall, the first day of filming had a little bit of problems but were easy to resolve or will be resolved on the second day of filming. Now that I have enhanced my filming skills a little bit there is not much left for me to do before I begin editing the music video. I’ve figured out a good technique for making it seem as if scenes were filmed all in one which I feel is a huge accomplishment. I am looking forward to day 2 of filming as this is where I get to film the driveway films which really require the actors to get into character and put on a show. For now, though I’m going to continue to review the clips I have already gathered so that day 2 can go as smoothly as possible and flow directly into the editing process.
