Research Blog- The Culture of Music


Today I will be analyzing the key components of a successful music video and taking notes. Whether it be different camera angles that follow an artist as they perform their song. Or little sound bites that go along with the story being presented by the music video. 
  •  Music videos often have a story that go along with the lyrics of the story so that it is easy to follow.
  • Music videos include different filming locations to provide a change in scenery and emotion depending on the song.
  • Depending on the type of music the video is accompanying there are props available to the actors
  • There are at least two to three wardrobe changes throughout a music video. Depending on the setting for example if a scene takes place a skating ring actors will be wearing casual wear.
  • Editing for a music video is very detailed there are a lot of different effects incorporated to improve the quality of the music video. Transitions are the most focused on part of a music video and often include bright colors our some kind of design that fits the video
  • Some music videos incorporate moving shots to follow a rapper/singer as they are telling their story through their music. While others just stick to using low angle, eye level, or a god's eye shot.
  • Depending on the type of music accompanying the music video there will be people in the background of the video fitting in. For example a house party there would be people in the background dancing a having a good time.
  • Sometimes there is background noise added to a music video depending on where a scene takes place. ( A person is sitting on the subway rapping or singing there will be a sound in the back of the train passing by).
  • The lighting of a music video is very important depending on the genre of song. 
  • Hip hop videos often include and over the shoulder shot which shows the artist walking through a busy city or a store. This is done to allow the viewer to see what the artist see while rapping the lyrics.
The key to a good video from what I was able to Analyze from different music videos is great camera movement by the director.

  PROPS The props that I will be using for the music video are cell phones.  COSTUMES There will be a variety of costumes used for different scenes of the music video. The first couple of scenes and the last scene will introduce a casual outfit to go with the setting. Then getting into the later scenes the actors will be in pajamas as the second scene will take place in a more secluded space. SCHEDULE 11/16- Plan out the codes and conventions for the music video to make sure everything runs smoothly. Genre Research: Horror

  Horror films are designed to scare the audience and inflict certain emotions into them. The different aspects when it comes filming and editing horror has been investigated. To see what really goes into making a horror film pop out at an audience. For starters, the common lighting used in horror films is low lighting. It creates a mysterious mood that builds tension, stress, and fear. So that the audience will stay on their toes never knowing when something will pop out to scare them. Frequently used camera shots includes close-up shots, over-the-shoulder shots, low angle shots, high angle shots, and canted angle shots. These draw the audience's attention and contributes to their thoughts on the context of the storyline. THE FINAL TASK

 This final is something that I have spent a lot of time making sure that it was perfect. I spent almost five days filming the scenes for the final task, because I wanted every scene to be done with maximum effort. The editing process also took a long time to get done consuming at least 4 to 5 hours out of two days. While editing this final task I got stressed out but I kept going because I knew it would be worth all of the hard work. Sometime even requiring me to take a step back to avoid overworking myself and becoming too stressed. I had to improvise at one point and start to adjust the order in which the clips were placed so they matched up with the music. That was probably the only bad experience that I had but once I finished that up and was able to reflect on everything I was able to accomplish  I  and enjoyed myself.
