CCR: Music Video Reflection
Creative Critical Reflection
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product incorporates different conventions of media to tell a story. The incorporation of different camera angles throughout the music video helped create emotion throughout the progression of the music video. For example there was a close up shot in the music video in which you could really see the frustration build in one of the actors faces as the story progressed. The product uses the setting to indulge the audience in the actors surroundings as they move around from scene to scene allowing them to get a grasp of time passage between two different scenes while also being a representation of how the characters are feeling at that moment in time. Finally the convention that played the biggest part sound, in the music video the non-diegetic sound which was layered over the acting gives the audience a break down of what is taking place in each scene as the soundtrack matches up with the actions of those present on the screen as the soundtrack plays. This video was created to display the hardships that a relationship faces and how that can sometimes intrude on a persons mental well-being along with their work ethic.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The product engages the audience by giving them a story to follow behind between a young couple that is going through a tough time. The product also gives the audience the opportunity to connect with the actor is by giving them a background as to why what is happening is happening between the two actors through a string of messages. Lastly the way in which the music video was filmed allows the audience to get a grasp of how the actors are feeling throughout the progression of time as the situation gets worse and worse. This music video would be distributed as a real media through YouTube, because YouTube has a wide audience of viewers that like to explore the music videos that accompany possibly one of their favorite songs.
3. 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Throughout the production of the music video, I was able to develop better filming skills my hands were steadier which allowed for the clips to come out at a higher quality. Which is something that I struggled with the first time around, but I’ve managed to become more comfortable when it comes to filming things. This time around I even incorporated new types of camera angles into my project that made it look and feel good. I was also able to develop some editing skills because when I first started the transition between two scenes wasn’t the greatest. In this project though I really saw my progression the transition between two scenes felt more natural. With these improvements in both editing in filming I feel that the content that I was able to produce would really appeal to an audience if taken seriously.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
I used my phone to film all the scenes for the commercial because of the high-definition filming capacity that it has. I also use some of my phone’s screen recoding software to record scenes directly off my phone screen to incorporate into the music video. I used my laptops editing software to mesh the clips together once I was done filming. The editing software on my laptop allowed me to trim the videos down so that they fit well together. I used the internet to gather information about what goes into a good information about what goes into a good music video and compile a music video of my own. Lastly I used the internet to gather the desired soundtrack for my music video and incorporate into the video though the editing software.
