Genre Research: Action

Action movies are undoubtedly the most detailed genre in the filming industry. In which they're often a distinct hero and a villain displayed in that will serve as the main characters if the film. To grab the attention of the audience a battle amongst the two characters is displayed until one has ultimately been defeated. The hero characters in action films often wear mask to accompany the rest of their costume in order to keep their identity sealed from the public. There is also often times within an action film where the screenplay will be in favor of the villain of the film. Which is done to show that the hero character of a film might not always have what it takes to defeat a villain the first time around.

Now into the most commonly used camera angles used in an action film in order to build a sense of tension between the two characters. Analyzing why they are a key part of the film and how they display the conflict between characters. The most commonly used camera angles in action films includes establishing shots, close-ups, long shots, high angles, low angles and medium shots. High angles and low angles are used to display a sense of power or a lack of power amongst characters which adds a dramatic element to a film. Establishing shots are used to display where the action will be taking place in that particular scene. Close-up shots are used to display the emotions of the characters often during dialogue between the two main characters. Medium shots are used for the basic actions in a film like when a character is walking on the sidewalk or on a computer.

Common camera movements in action films are tracking shots, panning shots, and zoom shots. Tracking shots are used in actions film often during chase scenes on foot or in a vehicle. Panning shots are used to show a vehicle as it is passing by in a hurry or when a character is walking down busy street. In which draw in the audience and add emotion to the film so it isn't just constant action with no downtime. The sounds that are often used for action films include dialogue, soundtracks, or diegetic sound. In which immerses the audience into the fictional world that has been created, while also providing the audience with a story in which to follow. Common editing technique used in action films are cutaways to create a smooth transition between two action packed scenes and special effects to make a character appeal strong.

The components of action films that I actually really enjoy are the different camera angles that they use to either empower or diminish a character while also displaying their emotions. I feel as if this really grabs the attention of the audience and helps them relate with a character as the story progresses more and more. The components in which I don't really like about action films is the limited amount of editing that is being used even though the editing technique that is used makes action films flow easily I want to be able to apply more edits into my film so that it is more appealing. Some of the films which incorporate all of these elements to create a masterpiece are Black Panther, Venom and Pacific Rim Uprising.
