Title Design Research: The Invisible Man

The films title design in which I will be analyzing is The Invisible Man a film released in 2020. To start off the studios who worked on the film alongside the title of the film were presented. The way in which the names of the studio were filmed fit into what the movie was about. The studio names would only appear once water came rushing towards a group of rocks washing over them revealing the studio. Once the water had a washed away from the rocks the title would disappear shortly after revealing another title when another group of waves crashed against the rocks.

Throughout the opening sequence there were a total of 14 titles put onto to display. The first of those titles were who directed the film and those who worked on the screenplay and screen story for the film. Followed by who helped to executively produce and produce the film for the audience. Then who produced the photography, film design, editing, costumes and music. Next up was the line producer, visual effects supervisor, makeup and hair design. The final title in which was displayed was the different people who were part of the casting for the film. Much like how the studios and movie title were presented the titles were presented for a few seconds before they faded away. These images make me feel as if I venturing into the unknown from a place in which is known by me.

As stated earlier the first thing seen on screen by the audience was the open ocean with waves crashing into rocks revealing words. Then shortly after the words would slowly become translucent before fully disappearing. This is symbolic towards the name of the film since the invisible isn't visible to the naked eye unless revealed by a substance. Which creates that sense of mystery leaving the audience wondering what is to come from the film. Which is most commonly associated with the goal of a horror film, to keep the audience on their toes about what's to come.

The conventions that are used to convey the genre to the audience is the soundtrack that accompanies the opening sequence. The soundtrack creates a sense of eerie while also making it feel as if the unknown is coming to the light. In my opinion doing a great job of making the audience uneasy right from the start of the film.
